KUIU is the market leader in DTC high-performance hunting gear with a commitment to quality and performance. The KUIU team tasked a leading digital agency with a full platform migration to Shopify Plus to ensure that quality and performance not only was featured in their products, but also in their eCommerce experience.

The goal was to get the site onto an optimized backend to allow for ongoing scalability and admin flexibility. Additionally, some key front-end optimizations were part of the work to ensure a best-in-class customer experience. This all needed to happen within 17 weeks to ensure the site was live and stable prior to the largest sale of the year for KUIU.

As a direct-to-consumer retailer, it’s not surprising that performance is also a critical success factor for the brand’s eCommerce site.

In order to provide its rapidly growing number of customers with the best possible online experiences, KUIU deployed a multitude of 3rd party technologies on its site. While these 3rd parties, which offer engaging features such as advanced search and customer ratings and reviews, help build customer relationships and loyalty, they were also slowing down KUIU’s page load times. This could have resulted in less than optimal shopper experiences, higher bounce rates, and decreased conversions.

To ensure that customers were not only getting a best-in-class experience, but also getting the site loaded fast, the agency recommended tapping YOTTAA to help with site performance optimization ahead of the biggest sale of the year.

YOTTAA Implementation

KUIU’s Senior Director of Site Experience ran a trial to see if YOTTAA could speed up the loading of all of its 3rd parties and what impact faster page loads would have on conversion.

As part of its evaluation of YOTTAA, KUIU worked with the agency to install YOTTAA Insights, a free Javascript-inserted solution that provides deep analytics on site performance, 3rd party inventory and performance violations, Javascript errors and much more. YOTTAA Insights was able to show KUIU several areas where YOTTAA could immediately help improve site speed, particularly around the 27 3rd parties on its site that were causing 5 second load times on mobile devices.

Once the Insights data was presented, along with a recommendation from the partner agency the KUIU team was ready to go to a full trial of YOTTAA Standard, YOTTAA’s robust eCommerce acceleration solution to optimize and control all browser-based site elements, including 3rd parties.

For the trial, KUIU and YOTTAA established a 15% improvement in speed for success criteria. Within the first 48 hours of launching YOTTAA, KUIU saw almost a 50% improvement in speed resulting in right under 3 second mobile load times.

This resulted in an estimated 5-7% conversion lift. With all members of the KUIU team agreeing that faster site speed equals higher conversions, KUIU deployed YOTTAA across its entire site.

The introduction to YOTTAA was critical to ensure our site was loading as fast as possible not only for our major sale period, but any time a shopper visits our site. As a result of faster site speed, our online conversions have increased significantly.
