Meet Jerry Bulman, VP of Inside Sales at YOTTAA

What is your role at YOTTAA?
I am the Vice President of Inside Sales. I oversee our small to medium business and mid-market sales teams and their managers. I have been in this role for a little over a year and have been at YOTTAA for over two years.
How do you help eCommerce brands?
I help eCommerce brands by increasing their revenue through optimizing the performance of their websites.
What is your favorite part about working with YOTTAA customers?
My favorite part about working with YOTTAA customers is helping them grow. At the end of the day, regardless of what their short or long-term goals are, it boils down to growth. They need to grow whether that is through new audiences, customers, channels, revenue, consistent customers buying more and so on. All of the YOTTAA customers want to grow, and I love that we can help them achieve this goal.
One of my favorite examples is a unique and growing footwear retailer; they started out purely online through direct-to-consumer sales and have been a long-time YOTTAA customer. Now they are doing amazingly well. It’s great to see brands who start off small and thrive through the opportunities that eCommerce provides, all because of YOTTAA.
What did you do before YOTTAA that has helped you most in your current role?
I had an interesting path getting here. Out of college I worked with Enterprise Rent-A-Car where I learned a lot about management and managing big teams at only 23 and 24 years old. Prior to YOTTAA directly, I was an Enterprise Sales leader at a social media analytics company. That experience has helped me most working with software directly and managing complex sales cycles.
How is your work at YOTTAA different from your previous jobs?
YOTTAA is different from my previous jobs because now I am fortunate enough to be more on the strategy side of things. Before, I was in the day-to-day deals and sale cycles with customers. Now my job is to think about how we’re going to grow each segment, the opportunities within the segments, and the partner and channel opportunities. I need to consider if we need to hire more reps or move territories and also consider other products that we can sell. It is a lot more strategy which I love. However, I do enjoy jumping on calls with reps whenever they need me to help facilitate different opportunities.
What do you like most about your job at YOTTAA?
I definitely like the people the most! The unique part about YOTTAA is that we have very clear company values, and every single team member lives up to those.
Having experience at other companies, what about YOTTAA makes it a great place to work?
YOTTAA is a great place to work because we have those very clear company values. These values include achieving through your metric and moving fast. Every single person works every day to exemplify these values through the great work that they are doing.
What brief advice do you have for others wanting to enter this profession?
Grow your intangibles. We can teach our sales process, what is important to our customers, questions to ask and so on, but really it is about the intangibles. It is so important to continue to work on your soft skills which include being empathetic, being a critical thinker, and learning how to actively listen. We can teach you how to run a sales cycle, but we cannot teach you how to be emphatic to a small business going through the challenges of an uncertain economic climate. Working on those soft skills will help your customers and your career.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my family! I have two young daughters. I also like to go golfing and spend time outside as much as possible with friends and family.
