Leading Retailer of Backpacks, Handbags, and Luggage Experiences Immediate, Noticeable Impact on Key Business Metrics Using Yottaa’s Platform

Waltham, MA – September 9, 2015 – Yottaa, the leading cloud platform for optimizing web and mobile applications, today announced that eBags, the leading online retailer of backpacks, handbags, luggage, and accessories, has selected Yottaa to optimize its web applications, especially for users on mobile devices.

eBags, an Internet Retailer Top 200 company, is the preeminent online merchant focused on bags and accessories having sold more than 22 million items online. Founded in 1998, the company was an early online retail pioneer and today sells thousands of products ranging from luggage to handbags to backpacks. Like many online retailers, eBags has faced a mounting challenge in serving its increasingly mobile customer base. Historically, conversion rates for mobile customers were low on eBags.com, even as traffic had grown.

In addition to mobile challenges, eBags experienced non-optimal performance for its desktop application due to the addition of personalization, third-party scripts, and other dynamic elements that cannot be optimized by traditional content delivery networks (CDNs). In seeking a new solution, eBags hoped to:

  • Improve mobile application performance and conversion rates
  • Improve desktop performance and reliability
  • Increase the speed and breadth of user experience innovation

“We had used a traditional CDN for many years which was fine for the delivery of static content. However, as our website has become more complex with dynamic and third party content, we decided it was time to modernize content delivery in order to provide our customers with a better shopping experience,” said Michael Frazzini, Senior Vice President of Technology & Interim CTO, eBags. “It was clear from our initial trial that Yottaa would easily outperform our old CDN. During its trial evaluation, eBags worked with Iterate Studio, an independent testing company, to test three competing web application optimization solutions and chose Yottaa’s platform because performance was accelerated more than 30% over the competitors, user engagement and conversion rates increased across all channels, and revenue per visitor was improved by 15%. Once eBags deployed the Yottaa platform, the company experienced an immediate, noticeable impact on crucial business metrics, including:

  • 20-30% improvement in performance on key pages
  • 10% increase in conversion rate for mobile devices
  • 3.4% increase in conversion rate for tablet devices
